A crude parametric encapsulation of a «physical» 3D ring might be an annular disk with an inner radius, outer radius, and thickness. These 3 parameters (with values possibly stored in a database) together with the adopted model itself define the «digital» encapsulation, which in turn may have multiple representations (perceivable by humans) such as «digital:visual» views:
