This is not a screenshot of the spec document figure, it's actually been redone in a drawing program (as you can tell from the high tech attempt to indicate the initial fluid levels to scale as well as the clear openings between both the tanks and the pipe ends).

Note that there is no dead-zone below the pipe openings, the bottom of the inside of the pipe is assumed to be level with the bottom of the inside of the tanks.

As we've done previously in this trail, we'll look at the Block Definition Diagram (BDD) first before the Internal Block Diagram (IBD) (the spec does it the other way round).
