Mathematica is truly brilliant for parsing complex sources such as spreadsheets, and ripping strings apart to make structured data. However, the String-related function names can be a bit verbose, and the RegularExpression syntax is not exactly like Grep, SED, Perl, or PHP, and not exactly POSIX (but not far off).
