Reasonably certain this worked on some previous versions ok. Has been reported to support.
WORKAROUND: Drag & Drop the Type (such as a Block) from the model browser onto the typeless Pin symbol.
You can use Go To > Type from the Property/Feature in the containment browser to select the Type, then drag it onto the Pin. Not so convenient. Even with this it is very time consuming (indeed annoying) and really breaks the flow of Activity modelling, so automated would be better, as works for ReadSelfAction and many other cases.
